Project Drowned Rat is the working name for a (fictional) dieselpunk cosmic horror world. The oceans are rising, the world is burning, the Danglish Empire is coming apart at the seams. Just normal stuff.
The largest remaining city in Dangland was a once-obscure industrial city called Newport. Now it’s the new capital, a cobbled-together sanctuary for money, poverty, old-fashioned human monsters and the new monsters.
Newport is a half-sunken metropolis; all the levees in the world won’t save it from finally sinking under the waves, but it holds on.
Ratties–giant intelligent rats–live in the concrete archipelagos like pirates, under buildings and in the walls.
The Grafinni are beings from another dimension, only capable of manifesting in our world through art. Posters, statues, songs, the Grafinni will take their bodies wherever they can get them.
The Illustrated. Humans who have been modified by Grafinni technology, their bodies and minds literally redrawn, resculpted, resung. Still recognisable humans, they’re going to become something that even the Grafinni find alien.
This blog (and the linked Pinterest boards) will serve as a place where I can talk about elements of this world, explaining things to you and (in many cases) to myself.
